As we mentioned previously it has not been possible to organise a “Question Time” type event for the local election candidates on Monday as previously hoped. Instead, we sent the following e-mail to our local candidates:
Dear Gary, Steve and Joan,
Open E-Mail to the Candidates for the Arborfield Ward of the Local Election for WBC
The Arborfield Garrison RAG is holding a public meeting on Monday 26 April to discuss the latest plans, and agree our response/action to, the proposed development in Arborfield. We were hoping to invite you to join us and answer questions from the floor in a ‘Question Time’ type event, but unfortunately it’s not been possible to arrange this. We are therefore moving to plan ‘B’:
We would like to read a pre-submitted written statement from each of you detailing your views about the proposed development and, in particular, your commitment / undertaking to prevent the development of green field and other open spaces ‘outside the garrison wire’.
Your statement can cover whatever points you wish to make about the development. All we would ask is that you limit it to no more than 2 sides of A4. Your statement will then be read out at our meeting and posted to our website.Should you wish to discuss our plan, or clarify our request, please give me a call.
Regards,
Martin Rutter
For Arborfield Garrison Residents Action Group
Thus far we have received a statement from Steve Bacon, and await replies from the other two candidates. In the interest of balance we will not post Steve’s response here in advance of receiving the contributions from Gary and Joan. We hope to be able to read all three statements at our meeting on Monday.
We also understand that several of the eight prospective parliamentary candidates for the Wokingham constituency are proposing to attend the meeting on Monday, whilst they will not be speaking they will obviously be happy to talk to residents about their concerns after the meeting.
