Our press release earlier this week was picked up by the Wokingham Times and is in this weeks newspaper. The paper asked for a statement from the Borough Council who suggested that they thought people would only be focused on the relief road issue, hence the cancellation of the forum.
Whilst the Arborfield Relief Road is a significant issue for residents of Arborfield Village, there are numerous other residents in the surrounding area for which the exact routing of the relief road is a periphery issue, they see the need for the road, but it is not a big concern where it actually goes. For example our Finchampstead members are much more concerned about issues at California Crossroads, Barkham members are much more concerned about Barkham Bridge and Commonfield Lane, Eversley members are much more concerned about the A327 through Eversley.
Alongside this members are also concerned about issues unrelated to roads such as school provision, hospital provision, the routing of the Nine Mile Ride extension.
There are a number of important issues that should be being discussed, and given the dates when the development here is expected to start if we suspend all discussions on all other topics whenever there is a consultation on one part of one topic such as this we will never cover all the issues. We welcomed it when Wokingham Borough Council opened the community forum to everybody, and many local residents took the opportunity to participate in the process. It is important to keep the momentum going to ensure that people feel their voices are being heard. The forum process wasn’t abandoned when the landowners consortium put in their planning application, why abandon it now?
